Cotteswold Dairy works closely with their farmers to ensure that they can deliver a great tasting product that is both ethically sourced and compliant with Red Tractor industry standards. Many of the farmers are small, family owned farms that practice traditional farming methods and are dedicated to the overall quality of life for the cows. The different types of milk that Cotteswold Dairy provides are Traditional/Conventional milk, Organic milk, Free Range milk and Jersey and Guernsey milk.
Cotteswold Dairy Traditional/Conventional milk comes from independent family run farms that that practice traditional farming methods. Most of these farm’s the cows have to freedom to graze and to enjoy the pasture during the warm months, typically between April to October. When the cows are housed, our producers have invested significant sums in appropriate accommodation to ensure that their herds are well cared for, comfortable and are able to express natural behaviours. All Cotteswold Dairy Conventional farmers are within 30 miles of the processing site in Tewkesbury.
Cotteswold Dairy was one of the first dairies to offer Organic milk and was the first dairy to offer it in returnable, reusable glass pint bottles. Cotteswold Dairy organic milk is certified organic by the Organic Farmers and Growers (OF&G) and Red Tractor. Our Organic farmers graze their cows for over half the year and most of the farms have robotics where the cows can choose when they would like to be milked. All Cotteswold Dairy Organic farmers are within 12 miles of the processing site in Tewkesbury.
Cotteswold Dairy’s Free Range milk is one of the few certified pasture promise Free Range milks in the country. Certified pasture promise milk means that the cows are guaranteed to have a minimum of 180 day and nights per year to graze. Although 180 days is the guaranteed minimum, Cotteswold Free Range farmers have reported grazing their cows for over 200 days. Jersey and Guernsey:
Cotteswold Dairy Jersey and Guernsey farmers are independent family run farms that practice traditional farming methods. On these farms the cows have to freedom to graze and to enjoy the pasture during the warm months, typically between April to October. These farms tend to run largely on a grass based system vs feed, similar to organic milk. All Cotteswold Dairy Jersey and Guernsey farmers are within 40 miles of the processing site in Tewkesbury.
Dragon milk is produced with cows from traditional Welsh family farms including Abergavenny, Monmouth and Raglan. All Dragon milk is sourced within 60 miles of the processing site in Tewkesbury. Dragon farmers are independently audited by the Red Tractor Assurance, ensuring that the high levels of animal welfare are maintained. On these farms the cows have to freedom to graze and to enjoy the pasture during the warm months, typically between April to October.
